Competing with yourself and with ghosts

A ghost is a replay of a run, drawn see-through. It never collides with you and never triggers anything.

Against yourself#

  • Personal best ghost: your best run of this route starts with your timer. Always on if you want it.
  • Live delta: "+0.42" behind or "−0.18" ahead, updated continuously, plus a split at every checkpoint (green ahead, red behind).
  • Best possible time: the sum of your best splits from different runs, so you can see what a perfect run would be.
  • Session history: every attempt of this session with its splits, and the ability to watch any of them back. Failed attempts too: they're for learning.
  • Last attempt ghost: race the run you just did, not only your best.

Against others#

  • Race ghost: any run from the board (the record, a friend, the player just above you) as your race ghost. It starts with your timer.
  • Several race ghosts: e.g. the record, your best and a friend's best at once, in different colours, with a delta for each.
  • Crowd ("Never alone"): random ghosts of the map moving around you all the time, from everyone's replays and from classic Urban Terror demos.
  • Watch / spectate: follow any ghost with its HUD (speed, keys, strafe HUD), pause, slow motion, seek.
  • Path lines: show the route of a ghost as a line in the world, to learn a line before racing it.

Learning from ghosts#

  • Compare mode: your run and a ghost side by side. Where you lose time (split deltas), and where you're slower (speed graph over distance).
  • Key overlay and strafe HUD of the ghost: see how they did a jump, not only where they went.
  • Unlock hints: like Neon White, show the record ghost's line only after you earn a medal (optional).
